Physical VS. Chemical sunscreens
Physical sunscreens contain active ingredients Zinc Oxide and/or Titanium Dioxide. Some people don't like physical blocks because they do not absorb into the skin well and leaves white streaks.
Chemical sunscreens may contain several active ingredients in one product that are created in a lab. They will absorb well but some chemical sunscreens can be very irritating to the skin or cause an allergic reaction. If you decide to choose a chemical sunscreen it is always good to start with a test spot and wait at least 24 hours for a reaction to occur before using. I have created a list of chemical sunscreen ingredients, listed below:
- Octylcrylene
- Avobenzone (Parsol 1789)
- Octinoxate
- Octisalate
- Oxybenzone
- Homosalate
- 4-MBC
- Mexoryl SX & XLTinosorb S & M
- Uvinul T ISO/ A Plus
... many sunscreens will also contain a blend of both physical and chemical ingredients. It's always good to be informed and read your products before purchasing.
