Ingredient Spotlight: Tea Tree Oil
If I were to choose the most essential of all essential oils, Tea Tree oil is definitely at the top of the list. Due to its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, it is used as a natural treatment to a wide variety of medical conditions. Just in terms of skincare, tea tree oil is great for treating acne, psoriasis, rashes, burns, dandruff, various skin infections, the list goes on and on. As an esthetics teacher, I always tell my students to add a few drops of it into their facial masks for treating acne because it works like a natural benzoyl peroxide. It's also great for soothing bug bites.
Because of its disinfecting properties, there are many other uses for this essential oil besides in skincare. I like to make my own yoga mat cleaner with it. Here's the recipe for how to make your own:
All-Natural Yoga Mat Disinfectant
1 part witch hazel
3 parts distilled water
1 tsp. tea tree oil
several drop essential oil of your choice (I recommend Lavender)
Add all ingredients to a spray bottle and shake to mix. Easy!
