Okay so by now you’ve probably heard of Manuka honey. You’ve probably heard it’s “better” than regular honey in some way and that it’s good for the skin as well. You’ve also probably noticed the hefty price tag of it when you go to your local health food store. So is it so much better than regular honey? I’m here today to break this down for you.

What is Manuka Honey?

Manuka honey is a type of honey found only in New Zealand. It’s called Manuka because it’s produced by bees that pollinate the Manuka bush. Honey on it’s own has some amazing antibacterial properties as well as an array of trace minerals but it was discovered that Manuka honey has an even greater concentration of these benefits.

Manuka Honey benefits

Balances the PH of our skin

Just like our toner, manuka honey can actually help get the PH of our skin back to normal when it goes “out of wack”.

Anti-aging

Manuka honey is rich in antioxidants, meaning it slays those skin damaging free radicals that make our skin age.

Moisturizing

A natural humectant, manuka honey draws moisture to the skin in the same way aloe does.

Naturally brightens skin and lightens acne scares

Manuka honey is actually high in hydrogen peroxide, an ingredient in many skin brightening products.

Calms inflammation

Manuka honey has anti-inflammatory properties that can help calm not only redness, but skin conditions such as eczema, rosacea, and psoriasis

Clears breakouts

The skin condition that this type of honey is known to help the most is acne. Manuka honey has powerful antibacterial benefits, destroying acne at it’s source.
