Ingredient Spotlight: Hemp Seed Oil
With the legalization of CBD oil in New York and marijuana in several states across the U.S., you may have noticed a lot of Cannabis-based products coming to the market. Here at Alchemy Holistics, we have been using Hemp Seed Oil from the start in the product that started it all, our Celestial Hand Salve. I’d like to start with a question I’ve gotten from time to time over the past few years…
“Is this hand salve going to get me high?”
CBD, THC, & Hemp- What’s the Difference?
Marijuana and Hemp both come from the Cannabis plant, though the leaves look quite different. The biggest difference however, is in the level of THC in each. Where is Hemp has a mere level of .3% THC, Marijuana has upwards to 40%. This is the chemical that gets you high. On the other hand, CBD, found in both Marijuana and Hemp, will not get you high. CBD does have a variety of health benefits.
CBD has been known to help:
Anxiety
ADHD
Pain
Depression
inflammation
acne
psoriasis
eczema
Hemp seed oil contains a high amount of CBD and I originally chose it in my Celestial Hand Salve based on its variety of benefits for the skin. Aside from CBD, Hemp Seed Oil contains a variety of micronutrients and minerals such as Vitamin E, potassium, magnesium, calcium and zinc as well as essential Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. Studies have shown that these 2 fatty acids also help with calming inflammation and a variety of skin problems.
Long story short, no, my hand salve will not get you high. It will probably help fix your dry, winter skin though.
